Song Review: “Did I Stutter?” by Logan Crosby

Nashville-based singer Logan Crosby has been emerging in the music scene for over the past half-decade. His previous works, including his 2024 debut album, 2019, showcased his songwriting and versatility when it comes to the sound of his music. Known for his honestly and vulnerability in his lyrics, his songs capture the hearts of his fans by showcasing his true self. Throughout the past year, Crosby has released several singles, including his most recent “Did I Stutter?” which was released on July 17, 2026. Within its first couple days of release, the single made its radio debut on SiriusXM’s The Highway: On the Horizon. This tune dives into the alt-country genre that is expanding beyond the country genre itself. Crosby combines both country and a unique genre mix to show he’s only just getting started. 

“Did I Stutter?”  begins with an electric guitar beat that moves into the first verse. “Baby I know that it’s rough out here” opens the tune up, his classic country-esque voice dominating the track. With rock-like influences in the production, Crosby created a danceable track that makes the listener unapologetically bop their head along to the infectious steady beat.  “Did I stutter when I told you I loved you / Did I stutter when I called you mine / Cause I said what I said / And I meant what I meant / Yeah you know I can’t lie” are the most notable lyrics of the song, which happens to be found in chorus. The catchy lyrics and energetic beat truly showcase Crosby’s musical style, with hooks that will stay in your head all day. While the uplifting production may deem the song uplifting, the lyrics tend to show the singer’s honesty and emotion, relaying his feelings to a lover.  

Slipfast was able to discuss the track with Crosby, where he dove into the creative process of the single and describes how it connects to the evolution of his music. 

Slipfast: What was the creative process like for this song - which came first to you the lyrics or the melody/or sound?

Logan:  A little bit of both. I had the lyrics first for it. I was in LA and I had just kind of listened to myself and my brain, which is quite scary haha, for a few weeks and just wrote down titles and ideas of everything I wanted to say and the phrase “did I stutter” kept coming up. So, I decided no time was better than the present. Charlie [Snyder] and Jesse [Mason] went with me in the room and that day we figured out the melodies and everything.

Slipfast: “Did I Stutter?” recently just made its radio debut on SiriusXM The Highway. What went through your head when you got the news and in the moment hearing it on the radio? 

Logan: I mean it’s the most surreal thing ever! Being on the radio is a dream. And the last 10 months since I got sober, I've really leaned into all the good things in my life and gotten really focused so being able to see all the hard work of my team and I pay off is actually incredible and breathtaking. I’m not going to lie, I cried a bit and screamed and jumped around a lot! It’s just really cool to see all the hard work [from my camp] pay off.

Slipfast: Looking at your evolution as an artist/and songwriter, how does this song fit into that? Does the sound tie into what your future project(s) resemble? 

Logan: 100% it does. I feel like I’ve spent most of 2025 and the first part of 2026 writing and creating in a new way than before. With like this freedom and abandonment that I never had. And going forward the sound is going to get ever cooler than now and definitely than things before this. So, for me, this feels like the beginning of this new chapter for me when it comes to my sound and lyrics and art. And I'm so excited about it.

Slipfast: Which line in this track are you most proud of writing and why? 

Logan: Probably “Cause I said what I said and I meant what I meant.” I definitely in the last few months have figured out that I just say what crosses my mind. Not just in relationships, but every part of my life. So, being able to say that part out loud is fun and cool to me. 

In the near future, we may be able to dive into the immersive world of “Did I Stutter?” Until then, make sure to keep up with Logan’s music on all socials as well as streaming platforms. He will be hitting the road this September opening up select shows for fellow musician Lily Rose on her ‘Fall Tour ‘26.’ With this being only a single within Crosby’s new release cycle, one can only imagine the sonic soundscape that will follow suit in his new era.
