Los Angeles-based singer Zolita has been emerging in the music scene for over the past decade. Her previous works, including her 2024 album Queen of Hearts, showcased her originality in songwriting and the depth she takes to bring her artistic vision to light. Zolita is back and kick-starting her new era with her latest single, “Hell’s Belles,” which was released on May 13, 2026. A cinematic music video accompanied the single release. This track dives deep into Zolita’s duality as she combines a pop edge track with country-inspired undertones.
The track opens with a guitar strumming beat that pulls into the countryside of the tune, whereas the opening lyrics start to shape the imagery of the song, reading, “I was sitting at the bar when a girl with a guitar asked if anyone was here.” Zolita describes this track as a take on an “ultimate bro country song and tying it to all the bad southern girls she’s fallen for in the past.” The southern references follow throughout the song, the chorus sings “Her sweet Georgia peach got me crying out, ‘Lord, take me now / Went to the devil with a soul to sell / And ooh damn, I fell / For hell’s belles.” Reaching the bridge, “A Carolina queen in a pink John Deere / Gulf Shores golddigger in cashmere,” she references southern and midwestern terminology, which implies the country undertones and moves them to the surface.
The accompanying music video is a campy thriller that fully immerses the listener into the soundscape of “Hell’s Belles.” The mini film opens with an allusion to the show Dateline, titling the program "Fateline." As the story progresses, the narrator tells the story of a female camp titled “Belladonna,” where women become belles. This camp turned cult follows a detective who goes undercover, which leads to the detective falling for its charismatic leader. Zolita perfected her storytelling skills through her studies at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. It is clear that the cinematic realm of the music video ties into the distinct artistry of Zolita.
As Zolita enters this dashing new era, it is clear she is setting the tone for her future projects. Her fanbase can look forward to more cinematic storytelling and live performances, as she is taking the stage at All Things Go DC this summer.
